Here is what i finished last night about 1 am. i have no idea how long i was painting, but i couldnt stop. i was so elated with how this was turning out. i felt like i outdid myself! i just LOVE it. except for the ocean inbetween the waves and the opposite shoreline. i really just didnt know what to do there. but i tried. i couldnt sleep forever thinking about it. but i have found that when i choose a picture that means a lot to me, like this one, my heart is in it.and it always goes smoother. i still stumble, but i really ENJOY working thru everything. its so relaxing, but at the same time im so concentrated on it. this one is getting framed! oh, can you you find the differnces between this one and the other finished painting? there were some things that didnt look right on this one, so this morning i touched it up. Posted by Hello

here is the underpainting, i do this every time i paint a picture, i usually use terra rosa for color, and do a monochromatic sketch to block in my picture. i try to make sure i have the right shapes and shadows. sometimes i like the underpainting just as much the painting, just because its the time when you need to get things right. and when its right, it feels good!  Posted by Hello

here is a painting i started last night and finished this morning. i dont know if i like it or not, i cant tell if i just dont really like the painting or if it was the picture that i took this from that i dont like. the colors were all shades of purples and pinks, and so painting was a little diffucult because the differences in colors were so suble some places. and since my knowledge about color is very very very basic, i felt like i was almost guessing at the colors, and doing that the odds are overwehlmingly against me happening to get the right ones. but i tried. i think next time im going to stick to greater contrast, like the sunset. maybe not that extreme, but i did really like the look of that one. Well, im off !  Posted by Hello

Hello From Salt Lake (still!)

Hey everybody we are still in salt lake, and we probably wil l be for a while because in arizona there is rain. i guess too much rain to build our house on schedule, so to our dismay our house will not be finished by the end of january like we thought. so we will be in salt lake for probably the next couple weeks, maybe a month. its just so gray! i dont think we have seen the sun for a good week at least. its been gray because the inversion is pertty bad and today it was raining all day, snowed a little over night but melt ed bcause of the rain. and we are in week 10 of our training , and i think we are geting closer to having some offers accepted. its kind of a learning curve. arizona is sounding better all the time! sunshine, 70 degree weather... our own house w/out neighbors stealing our parking spots... a finished house...we'll be able to unpack everything.. well maybe.. i guess we are moving to casa grande in may probably (like 10 minutes north, closer to pheonix) . when i get down there i want to check out Rocky Point. the mexican beach... Well, thats it for today!
Talk to you guys later!

Here is an oil painting that i did for my oil painting class last semester. Its oil on canvasboard, and i like how it turned out. the picture here doesnt show the brilliant and vibrant colors the origional painting actually exhibits. its really a must see in person to get the effect. I love oil paints! they're thick and rich. and the colors are bright and really amazing. Posted by Hello

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I can't belive its already 2005. Wow. SO this past year has been AWESOME for the Jacobsons. Starting one year ago, Dan and I (this is cassie) decided we wanted to be married. So we did it. We got married in april- Fabulous wedding by the way. Then we went on our honeymoon to cancun and playa del carmen, mexico. Next it was back to omaha for our reception there, and then to Alaska. We drove the whole way, David and Emma came out to stay with us and we met my mom, audrey, jenny and parker in Calgary, Canada and finished the drive together. It took about 5 days, partly because we fell in love with Banff Nat'l Park along the way. Dan and David golfed, and I took pictures. we stayed 5 days in Alaska and then headed back (won't do that again. but it was fun!)We both took classes this fall, I took oil painting, drawing, kickboxing, raquetball and sociology. Dan took Stats, raquetball, philosophy and first aid. We went to Omaha for Christmas, which was very good! I missed my family! He left on the 30th to head down to the Fiesta Bowl, he said it was the best game he's ever been to! Now we will work a little and move the end of jan/ first part of febuary to Arizona City, AZ, then in may to Casa Grande for at least a year or two, who knows where we'll be after that. Well. That pretty much sums up our year. We couldnt be happier!
